The closest one to me (closed now) was on the north side of Rockford IL. about 45 mi. from my house,so any time I had to go up there I made sure I stopped in and got a burger or two(or three).
Now then, were we talking about burgers or Bonneville??

Just ran across this thread.
I live within sight of El Mirage Dry Lake, where the SCTA folks play most of the race season. A few of the cars seen in this video above are still seen at SCTA events these days. The blue T roadster with track nose and white scallops on the front - Same paint scheme these days. The yellow Howard Cams Special - now painted red. Some of the others too.
I could tell you some stories about Bob's Big Boy too. The father of my good friend (best man at my wedding 35 years ago) was a friend of Bob Wyman who founded Bob's. He was invited to join Bob as partner, but thought it not a good investment. Silly boy. When I was a kid, I visited Bob's restaurants MANY times. Often via the drive-in. In the San Fernando Valley where Bob's started (Glendale), many hot rodders hung out at the various Bob's restaurants. Many street races were challenged there. Especially at the store at world famous cruise location Van Nuys Blvd.
