I actually started this one on another forum as a CBP. I didn't make deadline, so now I'm just gonna take my time and build this one s-l-o-w-l-y! This is Revell's 1966 Chevelle: I chose to do a chopped top on this build. I marked out a scale 3" chop: After cutting the roof off, I lined up the right rear post to see what might need to be done next: Looks like quite a bit, yes?? Comparing it to an uncut body shows the difference:

In order to get all the posts lined up, I split the roof panel lengthwise and crosswise: I added a thin sheet of styrene under the roof pieces to add strength. I then put in styrene strips to fill the gaps: These are some of the many tools I misuse on a regular basis to destroy otherwise good scale model kits!!!!!!!

With the added pieces being at this position, I noticed a problem with the "B" posts: The top rails on the doors and the "B" posts were going to cause a great deal of work to look right, so I took out the top rails and made new "B" posts: The driver's side with the new post and top rail in place:

After wearing out a tube of superglue, a file, a couple sanding sticks, and a can of primer, I finally got a primer coat laid down: I put on the first of three colors. This is GM Evening Orchid, a color used in the sixties by GM: After wet-sanding, I noticed I went a little deep on yonder tailgate! So, I wrapped it in blue and shot the tailgate again: The next color is for an accent stripe to break up the two main colors. This is Panter Pink, a MOPAR color popular in the eary seventies: I then added the final main color. This one is another MOPAR color, plum Crazy Purple: This is as far as I have the body work. i still need to wet sand the clearcoat and polish the body. Now, it's on to the interior and engine. More to come!!

Motorvation time!!! Here is the big block for "Lo-Velle". I shot the block with the Panther Pink paint, and the transmission is Testors Aluminum. The distributor is from Preston's Parts. Now, it's on to the interior and chassis!!

Went to Hobby Lobby yesterday. Wouldn't ya know it, the "Evening Orchid" paint I ran out of is not available any more! BUMMER!!!!! I'll need to try to find a hobby shop that may have a left over can or two. This happened to me on one my "Three Amigo" Pontiacs! If anybody knows where I can find a can of "Model Masters Custom Lacquer System Evening Orchid" paint, let me know!!!!

Thanks, dogfish! It's been a long term project (one year plus), but I'm having fun with it. So far, no major snafus have shown up!

How did you deal with fitting the glass once you cut the top down?

The only kit piece I used for glass was the windshield. I just cut the top off of it down to where I needed it to fit the new frame. The side glass and tailgate glass were cut out of clear sheet plastic.
