The old kit from the seventies that no doubt the Armorama guys have miked out 10,000 times to prove that it's not accurate at all. Personally I think it looks like an SU-122 but I guess that's just me...
Basic rust laid down with enamels. I'll let this cure for a day or two before the next step which will be hairspray and possibly some salt, after which a lightish coat of MM Soviet armor green will be applied. We'll see how the chipping goes afterward.
The bandy tracks supplied with this kit are truly awful so I picked up a set of MiniArt workable indies. They are very nicely molded but the workable part is wishful thinking as they are supposed to snap together with a molded pin and corresponding hole
Regrettably all that happens when one attempts to snap them together is the pins break off. This leaves you with a set of Tragic tracks that you have to cut from the sprues, clean up, and glue together anyhow. I'm a little vexed with MinArt over this.
If the paintjob turns out worthy of the expense I'll probably get a set of Fruils for this
Regards, Mark

Such are the trials of model building! I have no doubt you'll overcome these problems.

Looks like a SU-122 to me and nice looking too! I've not had any good luck with Miniart tracks either.

So I started chipping this and it looked bad. I continued and it looked worse. I got the entire back end done and it looked awful. I got the bottle of 4BO green back out and corrected the mistake. Don't know why it went wrong but I'll try this again on another project. The MiniArt tracks are now in the same place as other vile pieces of plastic that irritate me sufficiently, the garbage bucket. Every time I picked up the run to add to it it would break in another spot, and after the tenth time I swiftly grew out of patience. Fruils now on the way. You may notice that the vehicle is sitting very high. This is because I sawed the suspension arms off the hull and remounted them on a pivot so the suspension will articulate when the vehicle is screwed to the base. More on this when ScaleHobbyist delivers Regards, Mark

Thanks gents
Fruils arrived on Monday, assembly took three hours. Should have just done that in the first place. Here's what I've been able to make of this so far
Needs more contrast on the base and I may throw in a figure or two we will see what I can scrounge up
