Have you chose your base colors yet? That's what you see in the images, though my exposure issues don't highlight the contrast enough. Black frame, and FS 36081 Euro I Gray for the hood, cab, and winch deck apparatus. Yes, the whole model will have a rather dark, brooding appearance when finished. I think that suits the brutish lines of the tractor. Yes, I've seen them in other colors but if it isn't actual military camouflage then something dark appeals to me. I do have another one of these kits in the stash, and for that one (whenever that is) one of the unusual pre-MERDC paint jobs used in the seventies sounds attractive.

This shot shows the contrast a little better. I mocked up the truck with the wheels, and improved the lighting and exposure settings. Definitely an imposing, brooding beast taking shape here. Some tan is visible where I masked off things, such as around the turn indicators and the points where the mirrors will soon be added. I'll paint those by hand. Also visible in the background is a bent winch lever, and a broken one. I've been trying to salvage that one, but the busted end up and vanished on me. I'll try to make a new end with the proper contours (top is a few thousandths bigger around than the rest of the shaft. If that doesn't look good, I'll just cut all four of 'em off and replace with equal lengths of rod stock.

And here's the trailer, with the wood decking set in place. Still some brush work to do on the ramps, and wheels aren't on yet either. I will wait for the paint to dry for a few days before that operation. Still working on the gladhands, too. I think the contrast with the wood is just the bee's knees, and the whole combination with one of the yarders on the trailer will be quite colorful overall.

Having a Photo Booth, just like yours, I can see the scale of this massive trailer. Looking really good Beek.

Having a Photo Booth, just like yours, I can see the scale of this massive trailer. Looking really good Beek. This was shot in my small booth, about fifteen inches on a side. I've got a bigger one, about three and a half feet on a side, but I have to set up a card table just for it and even then it flops over the sides. And it's much harder to light the subject in the larger tent, so I only use it when I have to. And I will have to soon, because a yarder with the spar up at the proper angle is too tall for the small tent, and any tractor-trailer rig is too long.
