I saw the first pic showing the green stripes on it and liked it instantly.

Looks good! WW2 IJA camo is neat, almost as vibrant as early war French jobs, very cool.

Wow, that is coming along fast. Brilliant work Robert, and nice work on the research. I never knew that about those guns; despite having built a little 1/72 scale one some decades ago.
Looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks for the kind words, Mark and John!
No update today other than to note that I was going to put on the decals, but the first one literally shattered before I could apply it. I guess after nearly 40 years I should not be surprised. So, I'll have to hand paint the markings, but my hands are far too shaky today to try that task. I'm shooting for tomorrow at this point.

After my disaster with the decals, I started looking at the build more critically and decided the delay was serendipitous. The more I looked at the camo, the more I leaned toward the sand color being far too grey for my liking. I decided that the build could benefit from a filter to shift the color pallet to warmer tones. So yesterday I mixed up a thin golden filter with oils and turpenoid and brushed on three light coatings - allowing each to dry completely before the next was applied. The effect is subtle, but does help the look: Because it's difficult to compare this photo to the last one I posted, I pulled off the upper gun section and then flipped the lower hull over. Since the lower hull will be heavily weathered, I didn't bother applying the filter to these areas. With the unfiltered area next to the upper area, I think it's much more apparent how the filter has warmed the components significantly: With the filter sealed overnight, I turned to the markings. While I'm not 100% happy with the results, they are good enough for this build. Since the lower hull areas will be weathered, most of these markings will have dirt spatters, dust, streaking, chipping, scratches, and mud to contend with. There's really no telling how much they'll be visible in the end. The front markings are simple - a star (molded in the plastic) in front of the light, a Japanese flag to the left and a single letter to the right of the lower hull: The rear marking is just a license plate with the same white start as the front, some Kanji lettering, and a vehicle number. I might touch up the last "1" just a bit before proceeding. Note that I went ahead and painted the convoy light with green, orange, and red, as well and the silver reflector: Anyway, now I'll continue with detail painting of the jack and pry bar, the exhaust pipes and screens, the light, and the interior sections including the gun. Until next time...

Steady hand there, Bud. The wash is subtle but makes a big difference, I think.
