Decided to not fight with a ladder and freezing to death in the snow and hung my outdoor Christmas lights on the house and the shop today and added timers so they automatically come on and shut off for the evening and early morning when Red leaves for work in the dark... supposed to snow late tonight!!! Then I took a run to the landfill to empty all the trash cans... finishing a load of laundry, then lunch and head up to the Eagles Nest for some building fun!!!

Gettin' ahead of the game! I like that! It snowed just enuff here to say it snowed!! The roof of my sheds have a dusting, and the gas grille has a little on it, too. Oddly, tho, the cars didn't get any!

I prefer not to do it in 3 or 4 feet of snow and temps in the teens or 20's... as it is it is very overcast and in the low 30's... I've done it before in the other scenario and don't like it one bit!!! Glad its done for this year now, let the neighbors laugh, I don't care!!! LOL!!!

We don't do exterior lighting for Xmas, My mother always flips out over the electricity bill, even tho shes on a senior same price every month regardless bill. And we don't have any exterior outlets. I would have to run two extension cords from the back porch around the house just to do anything lol.
So she just does puts up her 20 something big butt rubbermaid bins full of crap inside. Me, i don't do anything in my room.

The new exterior LED lights don't use my energy at all and if on a timer you can set them however long you want...

I added four to my house a few years ago. It was built without any, back in 1973.

we cant set ANYTHING up for Christmas until after Thanksgiving.
Same here. Christmas Carols can't even be played until then either. And I agree with this.
Thanksgiving is a unique and important National Holiday that has sadly lost it's shine due to this society becoming more secular. After all, without all the blessings we have had from God we would never have become as strong and free as we have been these past 200+ years. Like the first Pilgrims, we should be giving thanks for all of this! This practice of holding back Christmas until after Thanksgiving is one of two ways I help honor and celebrate this important holiday. The second way is by attending Mass to give Thanks to God for all the blessings He's given to this nation and to myself before I do anything else.
Finally, I HATE when it is referred to as "Turkey Day"!! We are not honoring the Turkey, we are giving thanks to God!
Okay, rant off....
Now back to your regularly scheduled program unless my post gets deleted first for offending someone....

I think Thanks should be given each day but Thanksgiving is a time for family and friends to reflect on our real reason for the provisions He gives us!!! Putting up some Christmas décor early doesn't bother me in the least as He is the reason for both seasons!!! Give thanks!!!

we cant set ANYTHING up for Christmas until after Thanksgiving. Why is that, Al? im old fashioned. I worked at a mall from 1976 to 1984. Santa didn't come to the mall till the day after Thanksgiving. nothing was done, even in our neighborhoods till that Friday. everyone put up lights and lit them on that Friday. we didn't put up store decorations till then either. what was the biggest day for people to go out and celebrate the Christmas season has now morphed into the biggest Shopping day of one of the happiest times of the year. its all about the almighty dollar. I guess we just try to keep the Christmas spirit alive.

It's all way too commercial for me anymore and doesn't represent the true meanings.

Everything is commercialized today... Halloween a pagan holiday has passed Christmas in terms of revenue brought in for the year now... it's all about buy, buy, buy!!! Who has the best of everything, who can out top who... sad but true... as long as the masses keep supporting it, it will go on!!!
