My Tiger is not quite done yet. It needs a few more weathering details, but I am not quite sure what they are yet. Ya know when you taste something and it's good? But it needs just a bit more of "something", and you're not quite sure what? Well that's where I'm at with the Tiger. It's not being written off, but I need to keep the juices flowing....as it were. So, I grabbed the Tamiya F4F-4 Wildcat out of the stash. I've been hankering to build this for some time now. It will not be an OOB build. It'll have a Wolfpack wing fold kit, Aires CP, Quickboost engine set (with the accessory portion), and a Squadron canopy. First order of business was to glue the fuselage together, then clip its wings. The new resin wing roots are proximal to the lower fuselage. Here's how the new part stacks up to the clipped portion. A detail shot of the resin replacement. The Aires resin CP, which is their usual quality. Really nice! It'll be a bit tricky to see the detail once it's installed. But, it'll be there.

Thank you everyone for having a gander here. Not a lot of physical progress made, but a lot of dry fitting of the resin goodies. Just trying to see how it's all going to go together. Aires makes really nice CP sets, but their instructions are lacking when it comes to how they actually install into the kit. Example: What kit (ie styrene) features need to be trimmed away. A lot of dry fitting will tease that out.
I had thought I had am AM decal sheet for this build. As it turns out, I do not. So I went looking yesterday and found one that "struck a chord" with me. I purchased one off of eBay that has several F4F-4's. One in particular is that of Major General Marion E. Carl USMC. An amazing man who met a tragic end in my home state. All of that being said, I will dedicate this build to his memory. C***ing up this build is NOT an option.

A lot of color was laid down today. I started with some black primer, and Duraluminum for chipping effects.
Here is the effect I was after. I started with some basic chipping for the seat. Since most seats were black, I added another layer of chipping. All of the CP parts awaiting washes, and various other effects.

Keith Thank you very much my good man. The black paint used on the seat is by Mission Models. Jcon Thank you bother. Jeff Thank you kindly buddy. The CP is going to be awfully snug when I get everything mounted. The lower windows might help some....likely not.

Steve Thank you kindly. I buttoned up the fuselage last evening, and I remembered to mount the rudder beforehand. The detail is still all there......but you really have to look for it. Dukemaddog Thank you very much.
I'll get some pics up later today. A lot to get done first.

Well, I didn't get the pics up last night. Too late and too tired. There was some more progress on the Wildcat today. First, here's what the fuselage looks like buttoned up from the other day. The Wolfpack resin wing fold kit looks as thought it is going to fit as advertised. The inner wing panels will be installed once the engine and cowl are mounted. The Quickboost accessory assembly and engine. The pushrod tubes are 0.020" styrene. Ignition harness to follow. This really isn't too bad for twenty four year old molds. The landing gear (unpainted) is made up of four pieces.
