Thought I would share a hope chest I made for my daughter... hoping to get back into this a lot more once I retire... Next is a chimney cabinet I made for my son and daughter in law... And I built the fireplace surround for the brickwork that never was finished... It is painted black now... And built lots of quilt racks for the wife and her friends who are all quilters: And then I made a tin panel pie safe... took forever to punch all those tiny holes in each tin panel!!!

Red and my daughter were laughing when I did them as I sat on the living room floor watching a ball game and tapping away... they were saying I had great musical talent and quite the beat going!!! Lol!!!

You poke the hole from the back side so the outside is jagged and sharp... it kills the flies trying to get into it when they smell those nice warm pies that are in there cooling!!! Hense the name, pie safe!!!

You're welcome Buddy. What did you use for wood on the chest? Looks like pine maybe? Hard to tell with it stained.

Yes it's yellow Pine, my daughter wanted the red/dk brown color stain... deep cherry!!! The two drawers at the bottom are real also and dovetailed as well... with secret safes behind them...

Cool. The one I made for our Daughter was white pine with a natural finish. I lined it with Cedar strips.

After thinking about it, here's the story. Took me awhile to remember. I built this in Wood Shop while I was in High School 45 years ago. It was originally built for My Mom. On Her passing it went to my Wife and resides in our House. When the time comes, it will go to our Daughter and then hopefully our Grand Daughter. Made out of White Pine. The two top drawers are false with the bottom drawer being full width and depth. Starting to show it's age a little I'm afraid. I've thought about refinishing it but I like it the way it is if you know what I'm saying.
