Hello car builders, don't expect much from this project ! You're now officially warned. I'll try to build this not so impressive Monogram kit of the iconic '56 T-Bird. If, yes if I manage to build this one properly, it will be painted and rustified. The box. And images to pump up the mojo. ONLY for reference purposes.

Way to go, Guy. To remove the chrome, I've had good luck soaking the parts in FRESH laundry bleach. Oven cleaner will work also, but it's pretty stinky and caustic.

Thank you Jeffbro, I'll try oven cleaner first, I had good results with it in the past (dropped a Comet tank in it to remove the paint).
I didn't know it works for this too.

Cut a piece of sprue off and try that first. Spray the cleaner into a zip lock bag, put the parts in and let her soak. Should work pretty quick.

Great project! I've built the same kit. It goes together fairly easily. Those reference photos look cool! I use chlorine bleach for removing chrome. It works very well for me.

I use el-cheapo ammonia to de-chrome...I have a sealed class container that is filled 2/3rds with it...it's big enough to hold whatever I need to de-chrome. I let it work overnite...I remove the parts and put them on a paper towel to dry ...then use a toothbrush to remove the yellow residue...prep/prime/paint. I have used this process for 30+ years

Well thhis is gonna be so cool to follow. It's sad to see those stately cars in that shape, but watching you bring this to that will be a thrill. I'll be watching this closely.
As for removing chrome, I have found that Windex (ammonia) has always been the most effective. Most times, it just falls off the plastic; you only need to scrub crevices and such with a toothbrush.
Okay, bring it on man!
