Well that was kinda anti-climactic,,,, scroll thru the whole thing, watch a beautiful model come together, get told she will be entered into a contest that took place 3 to 4 months ago and I see no results of said show!!!! what the heck!!!!! Really great looking build Beekster. She should have definitely won some award!!! Look forward to hearing which award!!!

Been off-board for a while; sorry guys. About the show: Model was totally ignored by the judges, which while disappointing wasn't entirely unexpected. The local IPMS guys have definite preconceived notions about the "right" way to do things and how a model should be finished and weathered, and originality and challenging projects aren't things that they appreciate. I'm used to it around here; nobody knows Shermans and their relatives very well and my weathering style is too subdued when judged according to the current fashion. I still like the way it looks in my display case.

Beekster, I'm sorry that those IPMS guys have no appreciation for masterful work. Out here in SoCal that would definitely be a contender and would not be ignored. I know this as several of my fellow AMPS members build and weather just as you have and they are all consistent award winners. Yes, you have a truly masterful model there and I hope someday maybe you could bring it to a Nationals where a wider representation of judges would see this for the contender it is. Besides, if you did, I'd have a greater chance of seeing it in person!

Besides, if you did, I'd have a greater chance of seeing it in person! Thanks, Duke. As an AMPS member I would love to enter some of my work in an AMPS contest, but Oregon is far away from the critical mass of AMPS membership and contest locations. I can't afford to travel across the country for a contest and can't justify building a vacation around that kind of trip, at least with models brought along. Taking a day out of a trip to attend one in person could be done, though undoubtedly to the detriment of my wallet and trunk space...I'd be exchanging unbuilt models for built ones! And I still wouldn't be able to display anything. There are a few AMPS members out here in the Pacific Northwest, but we're rather thin on the ground; I don't think there's more than two or three of us within an hours' drive of Portland. None that I am aware of are AMPS-certified contest judges. And that isn't nearly enough to form a functioning chapter, let alone put on a show.

It would be much closer for you to head to Seattle for that... Absolutely; decades ago I attended IPMS Nats in Seattle and not infrequently go up there to play wargames. But it's still a three hour drive from Hillsboro, which isn't all that tenable for something like a monthly meeting.

Beekster I know how you feel about going to an AMPS National. I too find it too far and too early in the year to ever attend. Besides, as a small scale armor builder I would feel a bit out of place in such a 1/35th-scale-centric environment. Yes, they do have 1/72 scale models in their Nationals, but they focus mostly on 1/35th; sometimes to the detriment of my preferred scale. I have even heard of members at a Nats declaring how they hate small scale armor; and I've even heard that some judges have left tables when a small scale entry was placed in front of them. I don't know know if that part about judges is true since I've not been there ever. Still, maybe you could consider the IPMS Nationals in Las Vegas in 2021.
Regardless of what you do; your work is most appreciated and admired here and I for one am thrilled to always be able to view your models.
