I don't know about movie scripts, Wes...my imagination doesn't quite extend to creating something that expansive out of whole cloth. But being the history-minded geek that I am, I do like to ponder variations on the themes of others...like George Miller's Mad Max world. It stands to reason that whatever devastated humanity in his predominantly right-hand-drive world (Australia? South Africa?) would also affect everywhere else in the world. And when it comes to a model, doing something serious with a snap-fit kit is difficult enough. I don't relish the idea of converting my Mack to RHD with a scratchbuilt dash panel when I can just as well build it as an LHD variant somewhere in North America. Up around Fort Mac or North Dakota, perhaps SoCal...oil and any means of refining it are critical-path items in this dystopian future. The interesting thing about the world Miller envisions is that very few areas on Earth would have a critical mass of resources needed for survival even at the minimal tech level he describes. That means either warfare or trade or some combination of that. Warlords with access to oil probably can't grow enough food, especially if there's a dusting of radioactive particles all over. Someplace fifty or a hundred miles away might have better soil or weather for growing crops, but would need fuel for tractors. I don't sense that any leader could control vast areas of land because he wouldn't have the manpower to garrison it or the fuel required to patrol it constantly; he can only terrorize the local area. Miller's version has very few animals, but I suspect that is just a feature of the wasteland he has created. Other places would be able to support animal husbandry and traditional agriculture, but then we get back to that pollution and radioactivity. Probably not good to be eating beef that's been eating contaminated grass, but what choice do you have? I'm sure people would do it, and simply accept the cancers and short life spans that result...it's better than starving to death.

I've been looking at the tanker trailer bits I have in inventory and mulling over how to modify them to make the three-axle trailer with fifth wheel at the back. Got some gnarly wheels mastered too, though I must admit that those were 95% done years ago as part of working out those heavy-duty Mack DM895 tractors. Put the wheels aside because the tread pattern I made isn't realistic enough for use on a real truck, but would be great for a Mad Max build....if I can afford to get them cast up in the large quantity I need.
So, to the Moderators: Shall we make this official and set a kickoff date?
