The M911 can be had in resin or 3D printed form, I believe, and the M1070 is available in plastic and it has been built (right nicely, too!) on this site. As for a Mack, nothing doing. Shapeways has some stuff in 1/87 HO scale for the railroad boys. In theory, the CAD file could be scaled differently and printed in 1/72 but it would probably be expensive. More pictures soon. Decals (all four of 'em!) are on the cab and sealed in with flat clearcoat, which is curing right now. Thanks Beekster. Actually, the M-911 HEMMTT cab can be had in plastic from Academy and now Modelcollect, especially in tractor form. The M-1070 I'm still trying to get, but of course because I want it; there's none available in an easy-to-acquire position. So far, you are right about Mack: none available in my scale. No biggie, I have plenty to do for now.
Your work is looking great; very nice job on that cab!

Well, gentlemen, here is the final mock-up of the Mack tractor. I've been finessing the fit of the cab to the frame, and getting it to sit more or less level. I've done some fabrication with angle stock and punched discs to adjust the height of the cab mounts, and it's sitting about where I want it now. There's a sliver of a gap inside the passenger side fender at the frame, and I may shim that a wee bit more with some .005" stock. But nothing will change appreciably from what you see here. The close-ups show where material has been added to fill gaps, since this is a curbside conversion with no engine or other detail of the dirty side of the truck. Anything under there that isn't black will be before I call it done. And that will probably be yet this week, aside from weathering. The mirror faces need to be painted Chrome, which is as close as I can get to a mirrored surface. Once the cab is glued down, I will add a rod from the steering box up to the underside of the cab and finish off the black touch-up. Then perhaps a careful bath to remove any last bits of sanding dust, and some Dullcote (and cure time) to seal the touch-up paintwork. Then weathering and fitting the air & electrical cables at the back of the winch deck so that they can be plugged into the trailer. Photographing the whole beast requires my big light box, and I just ordered some higher-wattage bulbs to light that larger space better. Time will tell if that works, but I hope so.

OK, I admit it...I just couldn't help myself. My new 105-watt bulbs arrived today, so I can now light my size big lightbox appropriately. I had to test it out, right? So, I've discovered that it takes about twenty minutes to get the box and lighting set up on a card table to be able to shoot, and when set up it makes moving about the room a challenge. Also, those powerful bulbs do heat up the room! I had to mock up the entire Mack model to take some test shots, and here they are: The cab is now on for good, but no touch-up or weathering has been done yet. Yes, these shots are a bit underexposed. I was shooting f.8 on my old Sony, macro setting, and exposure value +1.0. I think I could go to 1.7 without things getting too washed out. Also, moving a subject around is delicate since the background sheet wants to move too. More challenges to overcome when trying to shoot really good images later. Still, even with these sub-par shots it looks a rather impressive machine, doesn't it?

A little tinkering with the picture-taking machine orta do it.

A little tinkering with the picture-taking machine orta do it. I think so too. It's the longer, whole-magilla shots that seem most underexposed here so those are the ones that need the most adjustment. Time to consult the manual; I believe I can set the camera to shoot three images in a bracket around a selected exposure value: One on target and one each a step above and below the selected value. About the time I figure this out is when I'll possibly get a new DSLR and start the process all over again. That Nikon D3500 is getting cheap now, and can be found with 18-50mm and 50-200mm lenses with case for about five hundred bucks. Anyway, once I get the exposures dialed in the darker areas won't seem quite so sepulchral. The larger light tent really does require very different camera settings from the smaller one because the light is always much further from the subject, no matter how much more wattage is thrown at it.
