Sounds like time for a looksie through the boxes with a notebook and pencil to make a list of what you need for when you spot it at a great price!!!

The MiG-21 MF and Bis variants would probably have been stout enough structurally, though the landing gear would need some beefing up and the gear doors might need a more prominent bulge for bigger tires, just like the Phantom. Not something to worry about for a ship, but if you wanted to do a 1/72 navalised Fishbed...
Adding a sponson to port for the angled deck might make it sensible to add one to starboard for balance; that would be a good place for the SSM tubes.
Hmm...also makes one wonder about a Richelieu/Jean Bart carrier version; get rid of the secondary armament aft and add a hangar and helo deck...it could be a commando carrier with integral heavy bombardment support.

Hmmm... I hadn't thought about an angled deck on the starboard for SSM's. I was going to add an extra hull bulge to that side to compensate for the extra weight of the port angle deck. I don't know that I'd do a 1/72 scale navalized MiG 21, I'll just do a few in 1/700 scale. As for a pad and pencil. I would need room to open all the boxes to search them and I haven't got that. Yeah, this will be a once and future project....

Buddho. I think the Kongo might have been ordered by the Japanese government and built by the British in Newcastle. If it wasn't the Kongo then I am pretty sure that at least one battleship was built for japan in Britain.
